The application of AI in banking is increasingly reliant on the imperatives of responsible AI. These imperatives – security, explainability, fairness, privacy and accountability – form the foundation for trust in AI systems. In this presentation, we briefly address each of these imperatives and discuss their application at SpareBank 1 SR-Bank.
Charl is the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) at SpareBank 1 SR-Bank, the second largest Norwegian owned bank. He is responsible for data governance and AI, and has extensive experience in data engineering, data science, data management, and software development; he considers himself a full-stack data nerd. He has a PhD in Responsible AI, and his passion lies in agile data solutions that not only facilitate but also strengthen the bank's corporate strategy. He is a staunch believer in a future that is digital and automated, but also understands that AI is not a magic solution. He strives to balance the value proposition of AI with the inherit ethical obligation and fiduciary duty of a modern bank, a stance that presents both challenges and opportunities. To tackle these challenges, Charl ensures that SR-Bank observes of the imperatives of responsible AI - security, privacy, fairness, explainability, and accountability. He leads the organisation to seize the opportunities presented by AI through the development and implementation of intelligent systems.
